Outdoor Living: Trends to Try

The only thing better than exploring the incredible array of outdoor destinations and activities across our state?  Stepping right out your back door and into your own patio paradise.  The indoor-outdoor living craze continues to thrive as more and more families seek solitude (and play time!) in their own backyards.  If you're working on your own space, here are five summer trends worth trying.

Fire pits are truly a treat year-round.  We love to sit around the fire with friends and family on cool summer nights, sharing stories and "brewskies."  Check out your local hardware store for propane options, or if you have a gas stub, don't miss the beautiful stone options (like shown above) at C&C Stone.

Despite the ongoing trend toward neutrals indoors, pops of color are making a big splash outside.  Try mixing shades of beach-y blue, or a variety of bright colors and patterns.  It's easy to incorporate color with outdoor umbrellas, pillows, rugs, and throws.

It should come as no surprise that natural materials are a win-win for outdoor decor.  Mix furnishings and accessories made of of woods, wovens, ceramics, metals and stone.  They wear well and add depth and interest to a lush, green landscape.

You don't have to have a green thumb to do well with container gardening; potted plants delight the senses and add layers of lushness without an overzealous landscaping plan.  Try clustering pots in a variety of sizes, shapes and colors in a few corners of your patio to perk up your surroundings.

String lights continue to be all the rage and are now offered in a variety of styles, from modern to vintage.  They add a touch of ambiance and will allow you to enjoy your outdoor space into the wee hours.
