KELLER HOMES IS RECOGNIZED WITH A 2009 ENERGY STAR® LEADERSHIP IN HOUSING AWARD

Keller Homes earns award for building new homes that protect the environment through energy efficiency.

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO - KELLER HOMES is pleased to announce that it has been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) with a 2009 ENERGY STAR Leadership in Housing Award. This award recognizes the important contribution Keller Homes has made to energy-efficient construction and environmental protection by building more than 80 ENERGY STAR qualified homes last year. Collectively, these homes will save our customers approximately $35,760 on utility bills each year.

The environmental benefits of these ENERGY STAR qualified homes are equal to the equivalent of:

  • Eliminating the emissions from 39 vehicles
  • Saving 237,120 lbs of coal
  • Planting 65 acres of trees; or
  • Saving the environment 465,040 pounds of CO2 per year.

To earn the ENERGY STAR, a home must meet strict guidelines for energy efficiency set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. These homes are at least 15% more energy efficient than homes built to the 2004 International Residential Code (IRC), and include additional energy-saving features that typically make them 20-30% more efficient than standard homes.

"Money Magazine Ranks Colorado Springs No. 1 Big City Best Places to Live in America" - July 18, 2006 (Colorado Springs Gazette article)

Gen. William Jackson Palmer's little prairie town is all grown up. Money magazine's 19th annual survey of the Best Places to Live in America ranks Colorado Springs No. 1 in the big city category, population of 300,000 or more.

The Springs outperformed Austin, Texas, and Mesa, Ariz. - not to mention New York and San Diego - in a study released Monday that factored a range of financial, housing, educational, health, weather, leisure and quality-of-life issues in 59 big cities.

One economic indicator that helped put the city over the top: a median home price of $192,250 that was well below the Best Places' average of $256,659.

"Colorado Springs also did very well on education scores," said Money magazine executive editor Craig Matters, "and in ease of living," which he said included "factors like commute times and health."
