2017 Interior Design Trends

The new year and new trends are upon us!   If you've just clad your home in 2016's trends (copper, marble and neutrals), however, don't fear.  Trends that are executed well become classics.  (It's why marble has been in style for generations!)  Stick with what you know and love; doing so will yield a cohesive look that is always in style.

Pantone's 2017 Color of the Year may be "Greenery," which, according to Elle Decor "is meant to evoke thoughts of flourishing foliage and, in turn, fresh beginnings."  However, many design bloggers are also suggesting dark green tones will continue to be popular this year, replacing navy as a go-to deep hue.

Designers continue to push the traditional rules of pattern mixing with bold combinations.  It's a trend that has been gaining momentum in the fashion world for years and is now emboldening rooms in show homes across the country.

Across the board, from Pottery Barn to Arhaus and back, we're seeing designer houses debut fabrics that can withstand dogs and kids and - gasp! - even adults.  What once was only possible with ultrasuede is now available in a multitude of looks, from linen to velvet.  Compromising form for function is a thing of the past.

It's back and better than ever.  From terracotta tile floors to terracotta-hued brick walls and everything in between, we love the warmth and texture each lends.

Good news: you don't have to match your doorknobs to your light fixtures to your faucets to your cabinet hardware!  It's a question designers get asked constantly and the answer is "yes!" you can mix metals. In the coming year, it'll even be encouraged.
